Member Spotlight: Chuck McLaughlin


Chuck McLaughlin was born in Sacramento, California in 1925. Chuck attended Sacramento High School and upon graduation, qualified for the Navy’s V 12 program in 1942. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 2 years and 8 months with a degree in Civil Engineering. After serving in the Navy during World War II he went to work for the State of California designing bridges. In 1949 Chuck was accepted into the MBA program at Stanford and graduated with an MBA in 1951. He met his future wife at Stanford in 1951 where she was completing her Masters in Journalism. They were married for over 57 years.

Chuck is a past president of the Golden Gate Chapter and was active in the HVAC community in the Bay Area from 1951 to 2004. After many years with American Blower and American Standard he started his manufacturers rep firm in 1969. Chuck was actively involved in selling large air handlers, fans, computer room units and water source heat pumps. At one time he was one of the largest suppliers of water source heat pumps to the commercial market in downtown San Francisco.

He has very fond memories of working closely with the consulting engineering and contracting communities in the Bay Area. Many of his close friendships were formed from the HVAC community.

Chuck currently resides in San Francisco and is looking forward to celebrating his 92 birthday.
