CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Ginger Scoggins is serving as our ASHRAE Society President for 2023-2024. Her theme for this Society Year is, “Challenge Accepted: Tackling the Climate Crisis.” At our CRC in Reno, Bill McQuade did an excellent job of presenting Ginger’s presentation on her theme. If you have not yet seen this presentation, there is a good chance you will be able to see it as Ginger will be visiting almost all of our Chapters in March. If you’d like to learn more about Ginger’s theme, you can visit www.ashrae.org/about/leadership/ashrae-president

Those who know me well, know that I love a good challenge. So, I’m excited to announce that for this Society Year, Region X is taking to heart Ginger’s theme, and we are boldly accepting the challenge.

We will be purchasing carbon offsets for 100% of the CO2 emissions caused by our travel (both flying and driving). This includes the CRC we just wrapped up in Reno, the Winter Conference in Chicago, all of the visits I plan to make to our 14 Chapters, our Region X President-Elect Training and Regional Planning Meeting in Honolulu, the Annual Conference in Indianapolis, and of course, the 1,400 miles of driving and 2,400 miles of flying Ginger and I will do during our 6-day, 4-State, 10-meeting tour of the best Region in ASHRAE. Preliminary calculations have resulted in the following:

This graphic will be updated throughout the Society Year, and my hope is that when we meet next year in Phoenix for our CRC, I will be able to proudly announce that Region X does not just welcome challenges…

We conquer them!

If you would like to contribute to our Carbon Offset Fund, I welcome your assistance. Thank you in advance for partnering with us in accepting the challenge!
